Back and relaxation
Why a new mattress rarely fixes a stiff back

If you wake up stiff, the problem is usually not what you are lying on. It is that the tension you built up during the day never came off during the night. That is a different problem, and it has a different answer.

You know the feeling. The alarm goes, you swing your legs out of bed and the first thirty seconds are careful ones. Your lower back is not painful exactly, it is locked. After ten minutes of moving around it loosens up and you forget about it. Until the next morning.
Almost everyone who has this has the same thought first: it must be the mattress. It is the most visible thing in the room, so it gets the blame.
What you have probably already tried
The list is nearly always the same, and in this order:
- A hot shower or a heat pack in the evening. Pleasant, and gone by the morning.
- A new mattress, often a firmer one. A few weeks of hope, then the same start to the day.
- Painkillers when it gets bad. They work on the pain, not on what causes it.
- A round of physiotherapy. It helps while it lasts, and then the gap between sessions gets longer.
All four of them do something. What they have in common is timing: they act during the day, or for an hour. The eight hours in which your back could actually recover stay untouched.
The real reason
From the moment you get up, your spine carries load. The discs between your vertebrae work like cushions: under pressure they slowly give up fluid, and they draw it back in as soon as the load comes off. MRI measurements show that daily rhythm in everyone. It is not a defect, it is how a back works.
Lying down is the one long stretch of the day in which your spine carries almost nothing. That is the moment the discs take their fluid back and the muscles around them can let go.
Except that a muscle which has been tense all day does not simply switch off because you turned out the light. It keeps pulling on the joints, it keeps the pressure on the discs, and it stays that way for hours. You are lying down, but your back is still working. That is what you feel in those first thirty seconds.
The rest phase is exactly when your body should be able to switch back and let tense muscles go. Under continuous load that does not always happen.
If the muscles stay tense through the night, that feeling carries over into the next morning.
Which is why it is worth relaxing the rest phase itself, and not only after you get up.
Does this sound familiar?
- The first minutes after getting up are the worst part of the day.
- You sleep through the night but do not wake up rested.
- A day at a desk leaves you stiffer than a day of walking.
- Heat helps, but only while it lasts.
- The scan showed nothing, and you were told to stay active.
What ANDUFIT does differently
ANDUFIT is a module of 7 cm that slides between your mattress and your bed base. You do not lie on it, you lie above it. It works with andullation: fine vibrations between 5 and 40 Hz that travel through the surface you are lying on, combined with infrared warmth.
The point is not the massage feeling. The point is the moment. Twenty minutes before you fall asleep, the muscles along your spine get the signal to let go, at exactly the time your back was going to be unloaded anyway. Less pull on the joints, less pressure on the discs, and a night in which recovery can actually happen.
Your mattress stays. Your bed base stays. Your routine stays. The only thing that changes is what happens underneath you.

What andullation does, measured
Andullation has been studied at several universities. The International Association for Andullation Technology collects that work. Two published studies matter for a back.
+34.5%
pain threshold, lower back
Fifty participants lay on an andullation mattress for 30 minutes a day, five days in a row. The pressure they could take in the lumbar area before it became painful rose by a third.
University of Seville, Dose-Response, 2019
−52.3%
pain as experienced
In the same group the pain people reported themselves went down by half, and their sense of well-being rose by 45.1 percent. Blood pressure came down slightly as well.
University of Seville, Dose-Response, 2019
+12%
vein diameter after ten minutes
Vrije Universiteit Brussel measured what the vibration does to the smallest blood vessels. Six minutes widened them by 7 percent, ten minutes by 12. This one was measured in laboratory animals, not in people.

Read those numbers for what they are. The Seville study followed fifty people for five days: encouraging, and small. The circulation study was done in animals. Both are published and peer-reviewed, and both are linked at the bottom so you can read them yourself.
What it does not do
This is the part that usually gets left out, so here it is first. Andullation repairs nothing. Arthrosis does not disappear, a worn disc does not grow back, and damage that is already there stays there. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.
What does change is the layer around that damage. Muscles that let go pull less on the joints. Less tension means less pressure on the discs, more room to move and a posture that costs you less effort. The pain symptoms get lighter and the mobility improves.
And that matters for what comes next. A back that stays supple and keeps moving is a back that is less likely to get worse. Relaxation is not a repair. It is maintenance, and you do it every evening without thinking about it.
What you might still be wondering
- How is this different from a massage mat?
- A massage mat lies on top of your mattress and works on the surface. ANDUFIT lies underneath it and moves the whole bed, so the vibration reaches you through the mattress instead of against your skin. That is also why it works under a mattress of up to 45 cm.
- Can I use it alongside physiotherapy or medical treatment?
- Yes. ANDUFIT is a wellness product, not a treatment, and it replaces nothing. Many users run it alongside what they already do. If you are under treatment, mention it to your practitioner.
- Does it fit my bed?
- It fits on a slatted base, a box spring and a solid base, and under almost any mattress or topper up to 45 cm thick. For a bed wider than 120 cm you need two modules, which are then adjustable separately.
- How long before I notice anything?
- In the Seville study people used it for 30 minutes a day and the measurements were taken after five days. What users report most often in the first weeks is falling asleep more easily and a less stiff start to the day. You have 14 nights to find out whether it does that for you.
You can find out for yourself whether it suits you
Try it for 14 nights in your own bed. If you do not feel the difference, send the module back. We arrange the collection and refund you in full.

Before you start
Do not use ANDUFIT during the first three months after surgery involving a prosthesis or an implant, or with severe uncontrolled epilepsy. With a pacemaker, serious heart rhythm problems or other implants, and during pregnancy, ask your doctor first. Designed and produced in Germany.
